The origin of life composes an interesting research theme that makes students familiar with different areas of science. Many students however have a simplified image of how life on Earth originated. In reality, it is about complex chemical reaction chains, specific environmental conditions and profound biological processes.

Moreover, it is hard to imagine all of this played out billions of years ago and the evidence supporting this is largely indirect. Scientists rely on clues in rocks, experiments in molecular biology, and computer simulations. Students therefore do not understand how origin of life research is conducted, which sometimes leads to doubts or misunderstandings about the credibility of the evidence.

One way to improve this is to make students more aware of the scientific process itself and the methods with which conclusions are formed about the origin of life. The scope of this project is therefore to develop new education methods that help better understand these concepts and make the scientific process more accessible.
